When Jesus taught us to pray, “Our Father”, he was suggesting a much different relationship with God than the disciples had known before. To them God was “The Holy One of Israel”, and you needed to be very careful how you approached Him. But, Jesus teaches us that the God who created all that is does not desire to watch us from a distance. He wants to be involved in our lives. This can be complicated if your picture of father is someone not trustworthy - someone who might not slip you a snake or a scorpion, but never really seemed to have your best interest at heart.
God is your good Father and His desire is that you be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the one who with us, in us and on our side. Ask Him.
