But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection… Philippians 3:7-10

Since we’ve set aside some time for prayer, what should be the focus of our praying? It would seem natural to pray for all of our needs and wants. We seem to have plenty of them and some of them are quite necessary to our personal peace and happiness. But if we are to find prayer to be as powerful as it should be we must resist the "what" and focus on the "who". Make the content of your prayer and the cry of your heart the same. “I want to know Christ”?

The choir sang a song a few weeks ago that expresses the same idea, focusing on the Who of our prayer. "Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth would care to know my name, would care to feel my hurt? Not because of who I am, but because of what You've done, not because of what I've done, but because of who You are. Lord, You hear me when I'm calling, and You've told me who I am. I am Yours. I am Yours."

Something in us does long to know where we belong and to whom. To hear Jesus say to us you are mine. wow!
