Acts 26
By Pastor Steve
What’s Your Life Song?
I found myself sitting at the table with our Missions Speaker, Phillip McAllister and his wife Sunday night before The Journey Service. We were enjoying a small meal together, sharing some small talk with one another when he suddenly looked at me with a serious look and asked, “So, what’s your story?” I immediately clarified the question and began the discourse of “My Life Song!” As I shared, I knew that I had a very small segment of time in which to convey the power of God’s grace in my life. I rapidly addressed my early years of life and a foundation of reverence to God which was established in my childhood. I blasted through the years of living life for Steve while ignoring devotion to God—other than a deep reverence and warped understanding of God’s love. I slid through my early to mid-twenties touching on the fact that I had made some very poor choices and then jumped with excitement to the age of 27. That’s how old I was when I was invited to attend an Easter Service and Brunch with my Fiancé and future in-laws. That is when my Journey with our Savior began. The rest of my rapid “Life Song” focused on God’s revelation of love and His call to serve Him in full-time ministry.
Have you ever considered the influence and power behind your story—“Life Song?” Apparently the Apostle Paul had great understanding of the power behind the story of God’s interaction with humanity. In Acts 26 we find Paul standing before Festus and King Agrippa. Paul offered “his Life Song” to King Agrippa and then reminded Agrippa that the King really knew that everything Paul said was the truth—a great thing to do when entering into a trial by the way. Once Paul had finished explaining all that God had done in his life and through his life, Festus and Agrippa stood up, left the room, scratched their heads, and said: “This man could have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar.”
As I thought about Paul’s “Life Song” and about my “Life Song”, I wondered how each of you would sing your “Life Song!” If someone walked up to you and asked “what’s your story?” how would you answer? Would you sing your “Life Song” of how God touched your life and freed you from the problems of life? Would you focus on what you have accomplished, or would your “Life Song” give glory to the Giver of all life?
I have provided a link to a video clip for you today. As you watch the video and listen to the words of this song, consider the lyrics of your “Life Song.”
