Romans Chapter 5

What is the deepest conflict you have had with someone you care about?

What did it do to your relationship with them?

Unfortunately there are times when relationships are doomed because of conflict that will never again allow any kind of peace between two people.  There is no joy in this kind of relational demise.  There is only pain and bitterness.

At some time we have all been in deep conflict with God by refusing His way and choosing our own, oftentimes unhealthy, way.  We go to war with our Creator who desires to be with us and who longs for our lives to be wonderful celebrations of his love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  All too often, we find ourselves in opposition with God and his plan for our lives.

Romans chapter 5 declares that we can be at peace with God through Jesus.

“… since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.”  Romans 5:1 NLT

Paul hinges all of Romans chapter 5 on the idea of being at peace with God.

From verses 6-10 we learn we do not deserve it, but the opportunity for peace came to us anyway.

In 12-18 we see that we are unable to make peace with God on our own.  Even though one man opened the door to rebellion to us all, another man would usher in the potential for peace with our Maker.

Throughout the entire chapter we are reminded that our relationship with God does not have to be steeped in pain and bitterness. Instead, peace with God comes through our faith in Christ Jesus.  Today, end your battle with God, embrace Christ, and rest in the Peace you can have with God.
