Romans 16

Deception—It’s a game for some people!
I think that most of us have experienced what it feels like to be deceived. In our world today, deception runs rampant. Deception lives and breathes destruction into the hearts and lives of people in many different ways. People are deceived through multiple internet sites, newspaper ads, dishonest sales techniques and—of course—fraud.
I truly believe that one of the most destructive forms of deception, however, is the deception that people utilize when they mislead others about faith issues. We all know that at any given time we can turn on the television and find some people who more than willing to offer deception and fraud while standing on the good news of Jesus Christ. I think that the Apostle Paul had some of the same struggles as I have when it comes to using the Gospel of Jesus for personal gain.
In Romans 16:17—19 we read: “I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.”
In my opinion, we have been entrusted with the most important message the world has ever encountered. The Lord has invited us to participate in His mission to convey the TRUTH of the gospel so that others will receive the unadulterated message of forgiveness, hope, freedom, restoration and of course eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Now I would like to encourage you. Watch out for false witnesses who are willing to defame the gospel for personal gain. But more importantly, don’t forget what Paul said about those who were obedient to the faith—he was full of JOY! As you serve our great God and Savior, remember that He is overjoyed when you share the truths of His love and mercy to people who are starving for the truth.
