1 Peter 5
By Pastor Brad
Too Many Irons?
My life is running on hyper-speed at present. I’m not trying to get ahead, just caught up would be fantastic!
I have so many things plying for my attention during this time of year that I’m feeling frantic, and I would love to get rid of a few extra irons.
If your like me, you make mental notes of all the things that you need to do and sometimes you even contemplate writing them down. Even now I’m thinking of all the things that are smoldering in the fire and need immediate attention. One of them is a devotional that needs to be posted in a couple of hours.
Over the last couple of days I’ve been reading and re-reading through 1 Peter 5. In the few and short extra minutes of my day I find a moment to read the passage again. This time a verse comes from out of nowhere and jumps off the page and slaps me silly across the face as to say, “Wake up!”
I’ve been so busy keeping all my irons in the fire that I missed it.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7
Immediately, the Holy Spirit brought these songs to my mind.
Be still and know that I am God,
Be still and know that I am God,
Be still and know that I AM, God.
Wait on the Lord,
Listen to His voice,
They that wait upon the Lord,
Shall renew their strength.
I cast all my cares upon You,
I lay all of my burdens down at your feet,
And anytime, I don’t know, what I’m to do,
I will cast all my cares upon You.
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord,
We will wait upon the Lord,
We will wait upon the Lord.
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord,
We will wait upon the Lord,
We will wait upon the Lord.
Our God, You reign forever.
Our Hope, Our Strong Deliv’rer.
You are the Everlasting God, the Everlasting God.
You do not faint, You won’t grow weary,
You’re the defender of the weak,
You comfort those in need.
You lift us up on wings like eagles.
Lord God, you are majestic in all your ways, and I delight in you for you are my hope in a hopeless world. You are my Defender when I feel powerless against the enemy that prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. You lift my head and renew my strength when I can hardly make it through the day.
Thank you LORD, that you are the EVERLASTING GOD!
