3 John

Christian Hospitality
This passage in 3 John addresses Christian hospitality: the dos and don’ts. This however is my observation after reading. I’ve noticed that generous people seem to be the happiest in life. And on the flipside, those that are unable to share any of their resources with those in need appear to be very negative and unhappy. Was that a total no brainer?
Sadly, there are some that continue to live by honoring self, which causes them to miss the blessing. John says not to imitate those that refuse to be hospitable or welcoming to other Christians. I sure would hate to be the cranky guy when he’s in need. He’s probably not going to get the help he needs. But wait, I’m sure the generous person will find a way to help meet the need.
Here’s a challenge to you that may take a while to complete. This would be a true test of your generosity.
What if you knew that a brother or sister was in need and you were able to help?
Would you be able to help them without them knowing who it came from?
Would you be able to give without anyone knowing?
Not even the church.
Not even your spouse.
Let’s go a little deeper. If I give only out of my abundance, what sacrifice have I made? And if I give so that God will bless me, isn’t that the wrong attitude as well?
Let’s practice hospitality…..anonymously.
