I Peter 4

Called to Ministry
“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” I Peter 4:10
Think of the best gift you have ever received… What did you do with it? Did you put it up in your closet and never use it? Did you re-gift it to anyone? How about return it for a full refund?
When someone receives a gift there are many options in how they will treat that gift, yet when it is a good gift from someone we truly care about, there seems to be only one way to go about things. Whatever the gift is, we use it, we display it, and we cherish it.
God gives us all good gifts to use in furthering his kingdom. It is up to us to use those gifts to serve others. Sometimes people have the idea that if you have a “minister” in place it is their “job” to do all the ministering in the church. Not so, according to I Peter 4:10. We are all called to be ministers. Maybe that involves teaching preschoolers, maybe your gift is visiting people in the hospital, maybe your gift is volunteering in the church office or pulling music for our musicians because you like organizing things. God has given you a certain set of abilities and talents, please be willing to use them for Him. Identify what your gift is, acknowledge it as a good gift from God, and then put into practice how you will use that gift to serve others in Christ’s name.
What of my interests or abilities could I use to minister to others? What steps will I take this week to use that gift God has given me?
