Voice Recognition
A cry goes out across the crowd, “Mom! Dad! I’m over here, right here!”
Isn’t it amazing how you can be surrounded by a crowd of people and yet when your child calls for you, you recognize their voice, you turn, look, and then you’re able to visually connect with them? And how many other people around you are also called “Mom” or “Dad” and yet they never turn and look? Simple answer: voice recognition.
We now have voice recognition technology that allows us to talk to our computers, phones and even our cars and have them perform a specific task for us. Although, it still seems to have a few “bugs” in it, especially the dictation applications. Let me just remind you to always check those messages before you press SEND.
We are living in the technology of Star Trek.
In today’s passage we learn that the sheep know the shepherd’s voice and they follow him alone. Out of the other shepherds calling their sheep, they only recognize one, their shepherd.
My ear is tuned to the sound of my children’s voices. I know every cough, laugh, and sigh. I recognize their voices because I have a deep relationship with each of them.
Jesus calls to us by name every day, waiting for us to follow. Do you recognize his voice?
