Revelation 2
By Pastor Brad
Back to the Basics
This week at TFNAZ we began our fourth season of Upward basketball. It has truly been a great ministry to the participants and their families. It’s fun to watch how these kids have improved in their basketball skills over these past three years.
Each participant will be taught the fundamentals of basketball and be encouraged to practice those skills everyday. As you practice, your body and mind begin to work so well together that playing basketball becomes so very natural and sometimes effortless. But if you’re like me, it becomes a struggle just to maintain the proper amount of oxygen and blood flow, not to mention the inability to move my awkward body around the basketball court.
When I was younger I enjoyed playing sports. Now that I’m older and just a tiny bit out of shape it’s not a passion for me anymore. Oh, how I long for those days again. I’m working it but I don’t know if I’ll ever be so excited to exercise as I once did. My mind is willing but my body is weak, very weak.
In today’s passage the message to the church in Ephesus is to return to their first love. They have done well, however, they forgot the basics. Go back and do the things you did at first, those things that fueled your passion.
If today you find yourself spiritually out of shape and loveless toward God and others, you might want to consider sitting on the bench for a moment to regroup. We are most effective for God when we allow Him to lead. When we decide to take the lead our spiritual bodies start to feel like lead, awkward around His court.
I remember as a young believer how my passion for the Lord was. I too must listen to the words of the Spirit and return to my first love. How’s your passion for Christ?
